Last year, Archbishop Vigneron challenged all Catholic schools to engage in a serious self-assessment and develop a plan to maximize our potential and unleash the Gospel in our school. Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish School joyfully accepted this challenge, worked collaboratively and diligently, and developed a strategic plan that we are proud to share with the AOD and all of our stakeholders.

In late 2017, the OLGC School Planning Team was formed. The team was comprised of our pastor (Fr. John Riccardo), school leadership and staff (our then-principal Liz Ross, then-assistant principal Leigh Fitch, teachers Jennifer Kraus and Rita Paterra, and our current principal, Melissa Hunt, who was hired this spring), school parents (Anne Falvey and Lynn Ingram), parents whose children go to nearby Catholic schools (Irene Ryan and Katie Bovitz), and an alumnus (Angela Hill). The team met more than a dozen times over the first six months of 2018 and, after much prayer, hard work and collaboration, completed the process. The result, we believe, is a dynamic strategic plan, a living and breathing document that will continue to evolve as we do; that will take our school and our community to an entirely new level.

The School Planning Team will continue to meet biannually to review progress on the Strategic Plan and make changes as needed.

We invite you to also view OLGC’s Vision Casting video where Fr. John and Mrs. Hunt shared our vision and mission with our school and parish community.

Unleashing Our Catholic Schools: A Strategic Vision for the Future of the Archdiocese of Detroit

Archbishop Vigneron announced a bold, new vision for Catholic education in the Archdiocese of Detroit, challenging the Church to embark on a journey of renewal and re-invention with Catholic schools as the face of a missionary movement.

OLGC Parish School is committed to Unleashing the Gospel and living our school mission. It is wonderful to know that we are part of God’s greater plan for the archdiocese. This new vision equips us to move forward with our mission. May you read the article and vision with enthusiasm for what God is doing in our midst.
